It isn’t uncommon for married couples in California to have disputes or disagreements during the course of their relationships. In some cases, it may not be possible to overcome these problems. If you are considering divorce, take a look at whether or not your marriage is worth fighting for.

You still like your spouse

If you still like and respect your spouse, that is a strong sign that you should make an effort to get past whatever issues plague the relationship. A relationship that is built on trust, friendship and a sense of humor is generally built to survive any problems that it encounters.

Your spouse still wants to be with you

No matter how badly you want to save your marriage, you can’t make any progress unless your spouse is interested in salvaging it as well. Generally speaking, a partnership cannot be fixed unless both parties acknowledge that there is a problem and is willing to put in the work needed to solve it.

Each person takes responsibility for themselves

It is important to understand that no one is perfect and that everyone is on a journey of personal growth. However, a marriage generally only works if you are willing to take responsibility for yourself as opposed to expecting your spouse to meet all of your needs.

Couples may decide to end a marriage for any number of reasons. Furthermore, you can typically get a divorce even if your spouse doesn’t want to go through with one. An attorney may be able to explain the process of filing for divorce and the different methods of reaching a settlement. If a settlement is reached throughout mediation, a legal representative may review it before the terms of an agreement go into effect.
